What did we DO?! Keeping the dream

So let me just say, the dreaming is the easy part and reality, well, the hard part. But without the hard part would we feel as fulfilled and accomplished? That, my friends, we'll never know!
We started on Memorial Day weekend 2022 with a rented Brush Hog, hand tools, and family and friends who were still in town. We set up a pop up canopy, cooler and camp chairs for our refresh area and set up to tame the land! By that weekend we cleared about an acre to an acre and a half. Not too bad, but so much more to go.
A few weekends pass with smaller work parties, sometimes just one or two of us. Then we were able to get schedules matched up and the (adult) kids came over - all of us with gloves, masks and safety glasses to tackle the "house"

Yeah, we picked ourselves up a real fixer upper. The land hadn't really been tamed or worked in quite some time, but the "house" in great disrepair. No utilities, holes in the floor, birds nest (the remnants of a mouse nest found too), able to see the outdoors through the front wall....oh and the stuff left behind.
Now those who know us know we watch a lot of HGTV, Magnolia, and Discovery shows - and yes, I felt like we walked onto one of those job sites. I actually used a rake and a shovel and contractor sized trash bags. We had a couple of different people come to remove scrap metal, and filled that dumpster almost to capacity that weekend. Next to see if we can save the house! It was a doctor's camp in the 1940's and was located on the other side of Oneida Lake. One winter it was brought across the lake and put on this land. It seems to have good bones. Time will tell us what time has done to her.
